Three side notes from the Register:

Three tidbits from the Register before I hit the main point:

More details on the drunk bus driver in Grimes. Turns out he's a former Windsor Heights Police Chief. Nicolai Brown would have a field day with this one. It also turns out he was drinking Hawkeye Vodka on the bus. Apparently his straw wouldn't reach into the gas tank. This guy deserves to go to jail for a long time. If he doesn't, I may start agreeing with State 29's "Soft on Drunk Drivers" argument.

Maybe the State Patrol will get the opportunity to catch him again this weekend.

Finally, today's Register story about Vilsack's walking tour is just asinine. First, the headline:

Gov. Vilsack's walking tour takes him off the beaten path

The story is about Vilsack's stops in Ankeny. Apparently I-35, one of America's most traveled highways, doesn't qualify as a "beaten path."

Then, the opening paragraph:

The future site of the 1,000-acre Prairie Trail development has a brand new tree on it, planted early Tuesday morning by Gov. Tom Vilsack as he meandered through the DMACC campus on the second day of his seventh annual walking tour of Iowa.

Is it just me, or does it sound like Vilsack was just wandering around and decided to plant a tree? We all know that's not how Vilsack really operates. He wanders around and finds places to bury money, not saplings.

Maybe Gov. Vilsack studied under former Conn. Gov. Rowland at his first few NGA conventions?

Haha. The drunk bus driver is a former police chief?

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

But hey, at least he wasn't drinking NIKOLAI vodka. 10 cents cheaper than Hawkeye!
